Squirg, while it’s possible to have unfertilized eggs laid, the chelakr fertilization process has more in common with Terran insects than humans. It’s not a one-cum-and-done situation. You need a partner you trust to keep any spermatophores in their sac (so to speak) when excited. Otherwise you end up with this mess:

Alrighty, back to the original topic: I don’t recommend anything that draws blood, but this kind of sounding can totally be done safely! Be sure to use silicone-based lube, water-based doesn’t maintain slickness long enough and you’ll want max coverage or that chitin chafes (trust me here . . .). If you’re really strapped for cash, cheap options I’ve def used in a pinch include warp drive coolant, but the smell’s not great . . . yeah, you can get a little desperate on those long freight hauls ;).

Is your partner a Nochir, Chasartvin, or Tagmata? They’ve all got unique quirks. I’ve gotten great mileage out of a modified power drill on a Chasartvin . . . really makes xem purr.
